Corner of Ashfield Rd.

Slow mornings,
good coffee,
proper food.

A neighbourhood café on the corner of Ashfield Road. Everything baked here, coffee roasted ten miles away, and no rush to move you along.

We started with one oven and a lot of optimism

Marlowe & Fig began as a market stall selling cardamom buns out of a borrowed gazebo. Two years and a great many buns later we took the lease on the corner of Ashfield Road, knocked through the back wall, and put in a kitchen.

Everything on the counter is baked here each morning. The coffee comes from a roastery ten miles down the road who let us pick the beans ourselves. And there's no time limit on a table — stay as long as you like.

The kind of café you end up staying in for three hours by accident. The cardamom buns are genuinely dangerous.

Came in with a laptop expecting to be moved on after an hour. Nobody said a word, they just kept topping up my water. Became my office two days a week.

The fig sandwich is the best thing I've eaten in Chorlton. Sat outside in the sun and genuinely lost track of the afternoon.

Lovely spot and the coffee is excellent. Gets very busy at weekend brunch so worth going early if you want a table by the window.
